My Polish grandmother would walk on the beach while looking for amber and during her life, she collected a crystal jar of small and big pieces. When I turned eighteen and travelled around Poland, I could pick one and together we turned it into a necklace. During this 6-month travel, I collected other pendants for this necklace, so it kept getting bigger and heavier. Until my necklace was so full of symbols that someone in a bar asked if I was a priest. I said yes.
After she passed away, I kept looking at that jar. It felt like I had to bring them back to life and honor those rare little moments between us, since we didn't see each other a lot.
And here I am today, turning these family stories into my first amber-inspired collection and jewelry brand, Amber Gambler. Here is a picture of Babcia and little me.
